There is a saying that goes something like "Your Attitude determines your Altitude!" When I first met Erin MacMinn her amazing enthusiasm and energy were off the charts! The saying fits her so well being that she is a leaping Masters High Jumper!

Erin, what inspires you?
Being able to be a good role model for my seven year old daughter is really important to me. I like to show her that if you have goals and work hard towards them, you can do anything.
I am also inspired by my fellow Master's athletes. The air at a Master's meet is just electric. It's amazing to see everyone out there, doing what they love and helping each other out. It's such a great environment.
What are your athletic goals for this season?
Well, my 2018 year end goal was to jump high enough to qualify for All-American status (4'5") but Sunday [At National Indoor Championships] , I jumped 4'5.5" so, I suppose I need a new goal! I think I am going to now focus on beating my team (Greater Philadelphia Track Club) record, which is 4'7" - so, my 2018 season goal is now 4'7.25"!
What is the most significant challenge you face in achieving your goal?
Honestly, my brain thinks I am 18 but my body know it is 39. So, trying to keep that all in check is a constant struggle. Not being able to jump as high as I could 20 years ago is really a mental challenge. Also, the fact that my body recovers slower and takes a bigger beating is tough, too.

What is a technical aspect of your sport you are focusing on or have previously improved?
Speed. I need to get faster. In order to jump higher, I need more horizontal kinetic energy to convert to the vertical. I laugh when I see videos of myself because I feel like I am going so fast - but, I am not.
What is your approach to Recovery?
Stretching and soaking. I swear I am going to get a water bill that is out of control one of these days. I am also amassing quite a collection of bath salts in my bathroom (iON included). They really help and I recommend them to everyone.
What might you say to inspire other athletes?
The old saying goes: you don't stop doing it because you get old, you get old because you stop doing it. That is so true.
Beyond that - 1. show up, 2. have fun, 3. work hard, and 4. just keep trying to best yourself. If you follow those four, you'll have a very successful Master's career!
What do you like about iON?
